Manuel Scimeca is Principal Investigator for the Environmental Pollution: Decoding the Complex Relationship with Human Cancer
Biography
Dr. Manuel Scimeca is a Researcher in Biotechnology and methods in Laboratory Medicine at University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. He obtained his PhD (2015) in Medical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine studying the role of microcalcifications in breast cancer occurrence and progression. During his postdoctoral activity, Dr. Manuel Scimeca specialized in the development of electron microscopy applications (EDX microanalysis, immunogold labeling) for studying the impact of environmental pollution, mainly toxic metals, on the pathogenesis of degenerative diseases such as cancer and atherosclerosis. Fields of research also include: the identification of reliable innovative therapeutic targets for neoplastic diseases, the study of chemical/physical properties of ectopic calcifications in cancer and atheromatic lesions, and the characterization of the pathogenesis of carotid atherosclerotic lesions. Dr. Scimeca is co-founder of the university spin-off TMALab s.r.l. and the company ORCHIDEALab s.r.l.
